Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.Ismae's most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?
My Review:I'm giving Grave Mercy a 5 out of 5 feathers. The world Robin has created is new & enticing. I mean assassin NUNS.Yeah, you would think that wouldn't work but IT DOES! I loved that The main character,Ismae, was defiant, strong & was herself. From the begging she doesn't have it easy. I mean, if I was sold into marriage too I would be freaking out & plotting to escape even before the ceremony. The begging captivated me & after that I could not stop reading. I read the whole thing in three days. This book is definitely something you don't see done in YA. I loved the whole concept of nuns who worshiped the God/saint of death. That just in itself made me going on to see what they would do next. This story was thrilling & enchanting the characters were perfectly imperfect. I loved that they were troubled. There were parts that made me cry & you could feel the characters feelings as if they were your own. I LOVED Duval! He wasn't too arogant & I liked that when you got to know him, he did have a heart. I also liked that Ismae tried resisting her feelings for him & that he had to work to gain her trust & love. It made their scenes alone more natural & right. The ending was bittersweet with the death of some beloved characters & the triumphs of others. There were some twists in the story were so cleverly made that I was actually caught off guard. I loved this book & I don't usually read historical YA books but this has definitely proved me wrong, u have to read it!
Overall the story was great and UNIQUE! 5/5 Chicken feathers! You will not be disappointed.
