[ARC Review] Circle of Silence (WiHi #2) by Carol M. Tanzman

Pub Date: July 24th 2012
By: Harlequin Teen
Pages: 304

Summary: [Goodreads/Amazon/B&N]
THE BIGGEST STORY OF MY LIFE COULD BE HOW IT ENDS.
It's my turn to run a "Campus News" crew, and I've put together a team that can break stories wide open. And Washington Irving High has a truly great one to cover, if only we can find a lead.
A secret society has formed in our school. It announced its presence with pranks: underwear on the flagpole, a toilet in the hallway, cryptic notes. A circle of silence keeps the society a mystery. No one knows its members, agenda or initiation secrets-until a student lands in the hospital under "strange" circumstances.
I "will" blow this story wide open and stop others from being hurt...or worse. And while my ex, Jagger, might want to help, I don't trust him yet. (And, no, not because of our past together. That is "not" important to this story.)
But whether you find me, Valerie Gaines, reporting in front of the camera, or a victim in the top story of the newscast...be sure to watch "Campus News" at 9:00 a.m. this Friday.
My (Karina's) Review:
This book was very mysterious. The author made it clear that MP wasn’t just a harmless pranking group. You have to keep reading the book in order to get your questions answered. Why is Val so hurt? What did Jagger do? Who is MP? Who is a part of MP? You just keep guessing throughout the book with that last question.
You honestly never really know MP. Although their identities are revealed at the end of the book you don’t KNOW them , which is the whole point of the book. Honestly I suspected Jagger being a part of MP because of his insistence on doing a story on MP, but then realized he couldn’t be when he went under cover.
I suspected Toby because of the way the author described her. (Stereotypical of me I know) Then I suspected Raul, which faltered when I realized he had a thing for Val, because MP obviously hated Val. I thought it was Jagger for the longest time because I thought maybe he was trying to hurt Val it never occurred to me that he may have cared for her.
Lastly I thought Bethany was MP because of the final clue that Toby gives. The emails sent to Val was from her own computer! Bethany is her sister easy access to Val’s desktop that they share. I had doubts though because Toby said it’s very easy to do and even explained a little bit of how it’s done.
You will enjoy this book it keeps you on your toes and a very fun read with an underlying message.
I give it 4/5 feathers. The ending was a bit more narrated like one of those old time Disney movies where they spell out the message for you. “And the princess then learned never to lie again and they lived happily ever after” sort of thing.
Highly recommend the book! I honestly couldn't stop reading it, my boss had to tell me to put it away! YOU MUST READ IT!

This was a great read! BUT was missing something that made the chicken run around in circles.
About the Author:
Carol M. Tanzman's performing arts career is eclectic. She was a dancing poppy in a production of the Wizard of Oz that toured to the Soviet Union, an abstract chicken in a New England mime company, and the assistant director for a play in Germany where her major responsibility was making sure the sheep entered and exited on cue. She's directed regional and Off-Broadway productions of new plays, was the artistic director of a children’s theatre company in upstate NY and has been honored (twice!) by the Bravo Awards for her work with the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Her first YA novel, The Shadow Place, was on YALSA's Quick Pick List of Recommended Books, the National Council of Teachers of English ALAN List of Best Books, and the CA Collection for Middle & Senior High Schools. In addition to the Harlequin Teen books dancergirl and Circle of Silence, she is a contributing poet to the Dare to Dream…Change the World anthology.
