A girl with an unknown destiny. A boy from a hidden world. When Celeste starts at a new school in a small, Kansas town, she hears whispering voices, has vivid nightmares, and swarms of blackbirds follow her every move. She is oddly drawn to aloof Rylan, the other new student who has his own secrets. The exact moment she turns seventeen, she wakes to a bedroom full of strange creatures, purple light emanating from her hands, and Rylan breaking in through her bedroom window. He knows what she is . . .
:O that synopsis sounds so ominous. It completely gives nothing away, which was good because I didn't know what to expect & was happily SURPRISED!! Plus that cover is EPICALLY one of the most GORGEOUS ones I have seen! And the book did NOT disappoint! ^_^ This story was one that I liked because it held a lot mystery, danger, and of course...Celtic mythology/lore! You know how much i LOVE those things in a book, and i was happy with how it was placed here in Rua. PLUS it explained what Celeste was. I liked Celeste she was a great MC. She was very confident in who she was and a bit paranoid but she never backed down. Which made her a great character to read about. Rylan. He was so...so...(search's for right word) complex. He was a bit distant & mean to Celeste at the begging but then once her Birthday comes, is a really caring, witty, and strong guy. PLUS he's a nightmare O_O, which is pretty cool. PLUS he is pretty dang HOT! ;) Just saying. There are some freaky cool things in this book. Like flocks of crows that you can command, portals to the afterlife, and crazy dangerous spirits. Let's just say that Celeste's birthday is packed with a lot of crazy. I LOVED Tink! He was different & bubbly and...practiced Wicca (which Is not as EVIL as you might think.) There are so many steamy & intense scenes in this book. AH! Like Celeste's birthday, Tink's...well read the book! I cant spill! There were never a dull moment in the book & I LOVED the atmosphere in the book. I also could NOT believe that ending! Overall, I really enjoyed this book! It was pretty easy to read and not to complicated. Which is fine by me. I could NOT stop reading it. U really have to read this book! So 4/5 GOLDEN FEATHERS!!!
My Thought's (Lisseth):
1) If you had to describe yourself in just one word, what would it be and why?
Happy. Yep, that’s me in a nutshell! I feel so lucky in life and blessed by my amazing family. Thanks, world!2) Can you tell me what inspired you to write Rua?
After completing a few adult urban fantasy/paranormal books, I really wanted to write a young adult book and I loved the idea of having the paranormal element based on mythology. I researched several cultures until I stumbled across the Irish mythology of the “People of the Mists.” The swarms of birds that follow the main character are inspired by the grackles that used to take over my neighborhood when I lived in San Antonio. There would literally be thousands of them draped over every surface in sight. It was loud, but cool and inspiring.3) Okay, when you saw the cover to your book, what was your initial reaction?
My jaw hit the floor. It’s so beautiful. I still can’t believe it’s mine! I’ve actually considered having it printed on a blanket so I can literally wrap it around me.4) What is one wish that you hope will come true?
That someone will find a way to process cocoa beans to make REAL chocolate that has zero calories so I can stuff it in my face at will.5) If you weren’t a writer, what would be your ideal job?
I have a great job as a consultant in the legal field. It’s perfect. It gives me the balance I need so I can spend time with my family and allows me to have time to write. Plus, I enjoy it.
In my dream world, I would love to be a curator of a museum in the anthropology or paleontology department because that would be AWESOME!6) If you were stranded on a deserted island what 3 things would you want with you?
I read this question to my husband and he said “Water, fishing line, and knife.” So practical, right? I’d go for a very long book, Chapstick, and a giant case of wet wipes.7) Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
“Lights” by Ellie Goulding makes me think of RUA. I love it! [Lizzy Like's it too!]
