Blog Tour: LUMINOSITY by Stephanie Thomas [Author INTERVIEW, Playlist, & GIVEAWAY!]

PUB DATE: November 13th 2012
By: Entangled Teen
Pages: 296
Summary: [Goodreads / Amazon]
My name is Beatrice. When I was born, I was blessed with the Sight. I was immediately removed from my parents and enrolled in the Institution.
At the age of twelve, I had my first true vision, earning my raven’s wings. And when I turned seventeen, one of my visions came true. Things haven’t been the same since.
The Institution depends on me to keep the City safe from our enemy, the Dreamcatchers, but I’m finding it harder to do while keeping a secret from everyone, including my best friend Gabe. It is a secret that could put us all in danger. A secret that could kill me and everyone close to me.
But the enemy has been coming to me in my dreams, and I think I’m falling in love with him. He says they’re coming. He says they’re angry. And I think I’ve already helped them win.
The AWESOME & SHORT Interview:
1) If you had to describe yourself in just one word, what would it be and why?
Resilient. And I’ll leave it at that, since I’m only supposed to use just one word.
2)Can you tell me what inspired it you to write LUMINOSITY?
A lot of different things inspired me, but I think the most important one was a student that I taught one year. Her name is Melinda, and she’d always bring in the most interesting books. Every week, it was something new, and they always made me curious. After writing lots of historical fiction, I decided I wanted to create my own world, and write something that Melinda would read one day. So that’s what I did!
3)Okay, when you saw the cover to your book, what was your initial reaction?
I thought it was awesome, and I couldn’t believe it was a cover for MY book. It made it just a little more real. I wanted to show everyone, but I had to wait a few months for my cover reveal. It was soooooooooo hard to do.
4)If you were stranded on a deserted island what 3 things would you want to bring with you?
My laptop, the internet, and my husband. I can’t live without any of those things.
5) Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
This is a hard question. I can tell you a couple of songs I used for when I was writing. When I think of LUMINOSITY, I think of the song “City” by Sara Bareilles. It’s about a girl who lives the city life over and over again and wants to find someone she can hold on to.
I also like “All of the Lights” by Kanye West, because in the opening scene of the book, Beatrice is looking out over the City, and describes “a million million lights” shining back at her. So, whenever I hear Kanye’s song, I think of that scene.
6) What is one of your most favorite Quotes?
Of all time? Perhaps the one I have tattooed on my arm. It’s by E.B. White, and it reads:
When people ask me what it means, I tell them that I write to hide myself, and I write to express myself – as I think all writers do.
Author's Playlist:
Well as mentioned before in the interview there were 2 SONGS that fit with LUMINOSITY. So the first one was:
“City” by Sara Bareilles
Here is the second one:
“All of the Lights” by Kanye West
About the Author: M. Leighton
Stephanie Thomas has been writing ever since she could put letters together to form words. When she was a small child, she would present her mother and father with self-made newspapers filled up with make believe stories and pictures. Her love for writing followed her all throughout her schooling, where she entered and won writing contests of all sorts.
Stephanie decided to become an English teacher and completed her B.A. at The Pennsylvania State University. While teaching, she later went on to get her Master’s in writing from The Johns Hopkins University.
She completed her very first manuscript during her graduate studies, and by the end of the program, she had completed two more.
Stephanie is quick to tell anyone that she’s a born and raised Philadelphian, and her heart will always belong there. She moved to Baltimore with her husband, and they’ve been living there for the last five years with their doggie, Sailor, and their rabbit, Buns (aka “T Sizzle).

  9. I enjoyed Luminosity, it was a book that I read in one seating. The world that Bea lived in was remarkable - and kinda naïve. The citizens allowed the Keeper and other Seers to be their source of protection. Yet there were those that questioned, and rebelled against the Keepers’ directives. Others still blindly followed the Keeper- even if it went against their morals. The ending will probably not surprise you but it may just shock you with the timing of Bea’s actions and the things that are revealed.
