ARC Review:Throne of Glass by Sara J.Mass

Pub Date: August 7,2012
By: Bloomsbury USA childrens
Pages: 416
Source: Publisher via Netgalley
Summary: [Goodreads / Amazon]
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.
Her opponents are men—thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the kings council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.
Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Cna figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
My (Lisseth's) Review:
"Throne of Glass is an AMAZING debut filled with action, love, secrets and a main character that is charming and beautiful yet at the same time ruthless."

So wrong for each other...and yet so right.
No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal.
But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.
Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.
My (Karina's) Review:
I really liked this book. There was a point where the guy got the girl and I was like oh I must be done. Nope not at all. This book was filled with different events yet stayed to the main concept.

ARC Review: Drain You by M. Beth Bloom

Pub Date: July 24th 2012
By:HarperTeen
Source: Publisher via Edelweiss
Pages: 400
Summary: [Goodreads / Facebook Page]
Quinlan Lacey's life is a red carpet of weird fashions, hip bands, random parties, and chilling by the pool with her on-and-off BFF Libby. There's also her boring job (minimum wage), a crushed-out coworker (way too interested), her summer plans (nada), and her parents (totally clueless). Then one night she meets gorgeous James, and Quinn's whole world turns crazy, Technicolor, 3-D, fireworks, whatever.
But with good comes bad and unfortunately, Quinn's new romance brings with it some majorly evil baggage. Now, to make things right, she has to do a lot of things wrong (breaking and entering, kidnapping, lying, you name it).
There's normal, and then there's paranormal, and neither are Quinlan's cup of Diet Coke. Staying sane, cool, in love, and alive isn't so easy breezy.
My (Lisseth's) Review:
Going into this book i was interested and bit cautious, i had heard mixed things but decided to give it a try and i just could NOT finish it or even get into it much. I won't say much about it because i don't wan to be overly negative.

ARC Review & FUN grab buttons: Something strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard

By: HarperTeen
Pages: 400
Source: Publisher via Edelweiss
Summary: [Goodreads / Amazon]
The year is 1876, and there’s something strange and deadly loose in Philadelphia…
Eleanor Fitt has a lot to worry about. Her brother has gone missing, her family has fallen on hard times, and her mother is determined to marry her off to any rich young man who walks by. But this is nothing compared to what she’s just read in the newspaper—
The Dead are rising in Philadelphia.
And then, in a frightening attack, a zombie delivers a letter to Eleanor…from her brother.
Whoever is controlling the Dead army has taken her brother as well. If Eleanor is going to find him, she’ll have to venture into the lab of the notorious Spirit-Hunters, who protect the city from supernatural forces.
But as Eleanor spends more time with the Spirit-Hunters, including their maddeningly stubborn yet handsome inventor, Daniel, the situation becomes dire. And now, not only is her reputation on the line, but her very life may hang in the balance.
My (Lisseth's) Review:
"This book is simply PERFECTION! Filled with the right amount of romance, action, twists, fighting, and mystery; it NEVER bores you & keeps you reading through the night!"
Going into this book i was a bit wary of this book at first because I haven't read many steampunk books that I actually liked. Especially ones with sorta zombies, well there called the "dead" but it thought that was an interesting concept. For me, it did NOT disappoint. I loved that the author captured that era perfectly. The writing & dialogue was what i would expect during of the time & she nicely portrayed the rules of society & the wealthy.

Publisher: CreateSpace
Pages: 312
Source: Blog Tour
Summary: [Goodreads/Amazon]

Natalie Johnson has always dreamed she’s someone else; calm, beautiful, in control. A chosen warrior with a maniacal arch nemesis and a dreamy boyfriend, the type that can make your knees melt and your heart quiver.
Real life is much different. She’s tormented by a bully and endures the sharp tongue of her father, but finds solace in her dreams. When her bully ends up dead, de ja vu from a dream hits her hard as everything around her begins to fall apart.
Whatever killed Sarah in her dreams is now in reality, hunting her from the shadows. And it wants her dead. Somehow as the lines between reality and nightmare blur, Natalie must discover hidden strength to pull her friends and family back from the brink of madness.
My (Karina's) Review:
Although I’m not into fantasy this book was really good. It was a bit confusing in the beginning I didn’t know she was dreaming. Natalie was bit clueless about the whole best friend romance thing. Tristan made it WAY too obvious. In the beginning I felt pity for Natalie but I also wanted to smack her for not standing up for herself.

[ARC Review] Every Day by David Levithan

Pub date: August 28th 2012
By: Knopf Books for Young Readers
Pages: 304
Source: Publisher via Netgalley
Every day a different body. Every day a different life. Every day in love with the same girl.
Every morning, A wakes in a different person’s body, a different person’s life. There’s never any warning about where it will be or who it will be. A has made peace with that, even established guidelines by which to live: Never get too attached. Avoid being noticed. Do not interfere.
It’s all fine until the morning that A wakes up in the body of Justin and meets Justin’s girlfriend, Rhiannon. From that moment, the rules by which A has been living no longer apply. Because finally A has found someone he wants to be with—day in, day out, day after day.
With his new novel, David Levithan has pushed himself to new creative heights. He has written a captivating story that will fascinate readers as they begin to comprehend the complexities of life and love in A’s world, as A and Rhiannon seek to discover if you can truly love someone who is destined to change every day.
My Review:
There are no words to describe this book.I am SO glad I got to read this book becuse it is by far the most touching book I have ever read. I have not read any other books by David Levithan but everybody really should, they are beautiful!

Fan the flames: A teen goddess fires up her search for love and family in this sequel to Wildefire.

She leaves her California boarding school behind and makes for Miami, where she meets a new group of deities and desperately seeks her sister Rose, the goddess of war. But she's also looking for love--because even though her romance with Cole had to be snuffed, Ash is a volcano goddess--and she doesn't get burned.

[ARC Review] Circle of Silence (WiHi #2) by Carol M. Tanzman

Pub Date: July 24th 2012
By: Harlequin Teen
Pages: 304
Source: Publisher via Netgalley
Summary: [Goodreads/Amazon/B&N]
THE BIGGEST STORY OF MY LIFE COULD BE HOW IT ENDS.
It's my turn to run a "Campus News" crew, and I've put together a team that can break stories wide open. And Washington Irving High has a truly great one to cover, if only we can find a lead.
A secret society has formed in our school. It announced its presence with pranks: underwear on the flagpole, a toilet in the hallway, cryptic notes. A circle of silence keeps the society a mystery. No one knows its members, agenda or initiation secrets-until a student lands in the hospital under "strange" circumstances.
I "will" blow this story wide open and stop others from being hurt...or worse. And while my ex, Jagger, might want to help, I don't trust him yet. (And, no, not because of our past together. That is "not" important to this story.)
But whether you find me, Valerie Gaines, reporting in front of the camera, or a victim in the top story of the newscast...be sure to watch "Campus News" at 9:00 a.m. this Friday.
My (Karina's) Review:
This book was very mysterious. The author made it clear that MP wasn’t just a harmless pranking group. You have to keep reading the book in order to get your questions answered. Why is Val so hurt? What did Jagger do? Who is MP? Who is a part of MP? You just keep guessing throughout the book with that last question.

[ARC Review] Quarantine: the Loners by Lex Thomas

Pub Date: July 10th 2012
By: EgmontUSA
Pages: 416
Source: Publisher via Netgalley
Summary (Goodreads/Amazon/B&N):
It was just another ordinary day at McKinley High—until a massive explosion devastated the school. When loner David Thorpe tried to help his English teacher to safety, the teacher convulsed and died right in front of him. And that was just the beginning.
A year later, McKinley has descended into chaos. All the students are infected with a virus that makes them deadly to adults. The school is under military quarantine. The teachers are gone. Violent gangs have formed based on high school social cliques. Without a gang, you’re as good as dead. And David has no gang. It’s just him and his little brother, Will, against the whole school.
In this frighteningly dark and captivating novel, Lex Thomas locks readers inside a school where kids don’t fight to be popular, they fight to stay alive.
My (lisseth's) review:
"Quarantine is a Gritty, fast paced, intense, unpredictable book filled with all kinds of Action, Conflict, and tons of AWESOME!"

[Blog Tour] Saving Mary: The possession by Deidre D Havrelock (Review, Interview, & Giveaway!)

Published: April 1,2012
By: Etcetera Press
Pages: 170
Summary (Goodreads):
If you’re a fan of supernatural fiction then you will be captivated by this true story about a spiritually sensitive girl and the path that led to her possession. Part one of a two-part series, Saving Mary is the story of a modern-day Mary Magdalene—the woman from whom Jesus cast out seven demons.
Deidre Daily is drawn to anything seemingly spiritual, desperately seeking a spiritual existence. But inside this vibrant girl hides a terrified child who sincerely believes she has married the devil. Through a series of spiritual encounters her fear turns into reality, and she ends up possessed.
Deidre’s fascinating memoir relays her story from childhood to adolescence: invisible eyes leering at her from the corner of her bedroom, horrible nightmares tormenting her, and her desperate attempt to find God—only to end up possessed. It is a candid account of possession from a first-person perspective. This dark memoir brings to light an intricate world of deceitful spirits hell-bent on manipulating and damaging an innocent girl’s life, not only through her dreams, but also through seemingly every-day encounters.
Travel with Deidre into the mysterious world of spirits, ghosts and demons. Awaken yourself to a world that isn’t supposed to exist; a world that’s as intriguing as it is sinister. And then emerge as a new person—invigorated, aware and intent on living in the light. Saving Mary; Not just another story about a girl and her exorcist.
Karina's Review:
This book was a bit confusing. It’s not an easy read and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone under 15. To me this book had a sort of southern vibe to it with phrases like “Shoot and darn” or “sweet baby Jesus”.

Review: Prom & Prejudice by Elizabeth Eulberg

Published: January 1st 2011
By: Scholastic Inc
Source: Library
Pages: 231
Synopsis: (Goodreads/Amazon)
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single girl of high standing at Longbourn Academy must be in want of a prom date.
After winter break, the girls at the very prestigious Longbourn Academy become obsessed with the prom. Lizzie Bennet, who attends Longbourn on a scholarship, isn't interested in designer dresses and expensive shoes, but her best friend, Jane, might be - especially now that Charles Bingley is back from a semester in London.
Lizzie is happy about her friend's burgeoning romance but less than impressed by Charles's friend, Will Darcy, who's snobby and pretentious. Darcy doesn't seem to like Lizzie either, but she assumes it's because her family doesn't have money. Clearly, Will Darcy is a pompous jerk - so why does Lizzie find herself drawn to him anyway?
My (Lisseth's) Review:
I read this book last summer in ONE day. It's a fun and easy read.
This is a story based on Jane Austin's pride and prejudice but a lose one. All the characters have almost the same names and attitudes but the story is completely different since it is set in modern times.
