About The Collector (Dante Walker #1) by Victoria Scott:
He makes good girls...bad. Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence have made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple: weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag. Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal-opportunity collector and doesn't want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment: Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within ten days. Dante doesn't know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect, he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector…and uncover emotions deeply buried.
I mean that should be a given right? But actually Dante isn't just the bad-boy type I normally read about. Sure at first he was a self righteous a*hole. Throughout the book we realized there's good reason for the way he is and his story really did touch me. As he see's through with getting Charlie to turn to the darkside we start to see his guilt and conscious kick in. He starts feeling and every time Charlie changed even more I FELT WITH HIM. It was like a physical pain in my heart. I guarantee you will FEEL something for the story and him.2) Not your typical Romance.
One of the BEST elements of the book was the romance. It wasn't hot guy meets hot girl, they fight, and fall in love. Oh no! This one is pretty fascinating. Dante meets Charlie before she changes and learns to like her faults. Once she starts to change he realizes that, what made Charlie herself were those imperfections and he truly liked her for her. Does this have the normal YA love gloom? YES, but in this case I understand and accept that some things just can NOT change. It was also really sweet reading about Dante and Charlie they gave me a warm feeling inside. Not a typical romance but definitely a good one :)3) The World!
I mean he's a SOUL Collector. That job sounds both scary and cool. It makes me wonder if there really around us, tempting us, tagging us, and we just don't know it O_O. I really liked that the collectors weren't all bad. We see there are also good collectors, even though they might look like bad collectors ;) The whole plot for WHY Charlie was so important kinda surprised me because I was thinking a whole OTHER reason. You also don't feel like this is a whole other world that doesn't exist, which brings a sense of realism that is much appreciated!4) The Writing.
I normally don't take the writing into much count when I'm reading. I'm more in it for enjoyment. BUT this book was in a GUYS POV, which is my favorite! Plus it had the same writing style & feel as that one of my favorite adult author, Sherrilyn Kenyon! The Characters & story aren't flat. They don't just stay on the page, OH NO, they come out and you feel like you know them. They make you angry, they make you laugh, and in the end they make you glad you took the chance to read the book!
