Release Day Promo: Concealed in the Shadows by Gabrielle Arrowsmith [GIVEAWAY + Author Interview!]

Hey Everyone! I know this is a day late but life happens and I couldn't get it up yesterday. So please excuse me for that. NOW onto the post we go :)
ABOUT THE BOOK

Publication Date: May 17th 2013
Publisher: Clean Teen Publishing
Pages: 541
Genre: YA Dystopian
Summary from Goodreads (here):
Sydney Harter has long awaited September 12th, 2033—her eighteenth birthday. She can finally apply for guardianship of her sister, who is her only family and entire world. She hopes they will be lawfully reunited, but is prepared to defy authority and risk everything to escape the captivity of Miles County so that they can be together.
Escaping will be difficult and dangerous. Citizens are bound to their county by sophisticated chip implants that deliver shocks to those who dare to cross the electric barrier. Sydney is very clever, but her trickery is limited against the all-seeing eyes of technology. Even if they were to survive the escape, disappearing into the forgotten forests and towns of the past seems an impossible task.
What Sydney doesn't know is that she is the particular interest of two opposing forces. With deceit, fear, and warfare surrounding her—can she trust the party that aims to help with her fight against the other? Can she open her heart to receive and return unexpected love? When her sister’s life becomes jeopardized, Sydney will have to weigh a new love against the only enduring love she has known. The cost could be deadly…
How will she choose?

1) If you had to describe yourself in just one word, what would it be and why?

Ambitious. I always strive to accomplish as much as I can in all aspects of my life. It is important to me that I work hard to develop my talents as much as I can.
2) Can you tell me what inspired it you to write CONCEALED IN THE SHADOWS?

Concealed in the Shadows is mainly a product of three influences in my life. Being an educator, I was reflecting one day on how technological education had become. I was both impressed with and concerned by programs that can assess student strengths and weaknesses and develop a customized education plan instantaneously. I imagined that further development of this method of educating students could result in more online schooling and less need for teachers.
Around that same time, my grandpa and I had a conversation about the possibility of humans containing microchips to contain information such as finances in the future. Out of curiosity, I conducted researched on the topic. The premise for a novel began to develop. Originally, the main character was a male!
It was a couple years later before I mustered the courage to begin writing the novel that I had been planning. I was deeply inspired by the works of my favorite authors and, particularly, by finishing powerful YA dystopian trilogy that left me in reader’s despair. That void was quickly filled by an overwhelming need to try my own hand at creating something remarkable. My ideas morphed to become Concealed in the Shadows. I hope readers will find in it exactly what I love to read and have striven to convey in my writing: honesty, thought-provoking themes, suspense, and inspiration.
3) Okay, when you saw the cover to your book, what was your initial reaction?
Ooooh and YES! I am so pleased with the cover, courtesy of Marya Heiman at Clean Teen Publishing. I think it highlights the intensity in the novel perfectly. There is also an eerie element added with the cross hairs and the dark, yet brilliant colors. That, too, is appropriate for the book.
4) Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
I got goosebumps the first time that I heard "Skyfall" by Adele. The lyrics are amazingly fitting as is the overall tone produced by Adele's vocals and the music. Wow. I also like "Seven Devils" by Florence and the Machine. The lyric 'I'll be dead before the day is done,' is often Sydney's outlook due to the dire situations into which she becomes entangled.
[Me love Adele & Florence SO I HAD to add the videos!]

5) What is one of your most favorite Quotes?

How could you ask me to pick just one? LOL! Here are a few to choose from. I'd love to know which one is your favorite!
"Neither of us holds pride from our earlier confrontations today. We succumb to our present vulnerability, our fear, and hold each other for strength. We’re stuck this way for the longest time, not wanting to let go and face the crises ahead of us."
~Concealed in the Shadows
"It’s not the watchful eye of the camera we’re avoiding—it’s that of the black-operations teams. With their heat-seeking technology and superior, sniper weapons, there is no time when it’s safe to be exposed."
~Concealed in the Shadows
"Hiding would be futile and slowing at all would be a costly mistake. Thus, none of us bother with the timing game. We are engaged in an all-out sprint, knowing that our lives depend on our speed."
~Concealed in the Shadows
Out of the three #1 is my favorite but they were all equally good :)
