Summary from Goodreads (here):
Following an all-out battle with the walking Dead, the Spirit Hunters have fled Philadelphia, leaving Eleanor alone to cope with the devastating aftermath. But there’s more trouble ahead—the evil necromancer Marcus has returned, and his diabolical advances have Eleanor escaping to Paris to seek the help of Joseph, Jie, and the infuriatingly handsome Daniel once again. When she arrives, however, she finds a whole new darkness lurking in this City of Light. As harrowing events unfold, Eleanor is forced to make a deadly decision that will mean life or death for everyone.
A Darkness Strange and LOVELY was a great sequel. It was an intense, action packed, mystery; filled with more ZOMBIES, and NEW Characters! I LOVED Something Strange and Deadly and had been waiting for this book anxiously, so when I got this I DEVOURED it. I can never get enough of these character and there crazy adventures! I NEED book #3 like NOW! WHY MUST I WAIT ANOTHER YEAR ;_; *now moving on from my book desperation* I love how Susan Dennard can pull me back in time. Just like in book one I can imagine the inventions, the gowns, the zombies and the era. In this book we also move to PARIS! The City of Lights has never felt more mysterious to me and alive as it was in this book :) It makes for the perfect place to create mischief and for evil plots to occur }:) Okay, Eleanor needs the Spirit Hunters now and goes in search for them and that's when things go from bad to crazy. And YES things get more dangerous and deadly O.O She not only has to deal with Marcus but she has to deal with HELLHOUNDS and DEMONS! On her way to the Spirit Hunters Eleanor meets Oliver and Laurel. Whom turned out to be my favorite new additions to the series. Oliver has some DEEP secrets and i wanted to KNOW MORE about him but i loved his humor, honesty, and wit. In this book Eleanor gets tougher. She goes through lots of difficult things; like dealing with people mocking her, hating her, and trying to kill her. I liked watching her grow and also learning to cope with her new powers. Ah, Daniel *Swoon* I STILL LOVE YOU! So eventually Eleanor & Daniel reunite after the awkward scene back in P.A. Is Eleanor heartbroken? YES. She tries so hard to forget Daniel but it's no use she loves him! AND OMG IT WAS SO CUTE :3 Watching Daniel try to be a gentleman for El and how he blushed and stuttered was so endearing. In this book Eleanor & Daniels roles have switched. He's living the life in Paris while she's turned into a carefree determined woman. While he's out at parties she's out investigating. So I don't wanna spill all the beans but there is a ball, there are several attacks by the living dead, and there is this huge mysterious diabolical plot that slowly gives us clues and by the end it ALL MAKES SENSE. There are some emotional, gut wrenching, and stress increasing scenes too! I cried a bit too XP just warning ya. THE ENDING was like BAM! I didn't think things could get even more crazy but they did and OMG U MUST READ IT. It was amazing. There's a kinda-kidnapping, a kinda - sacrifice attempt, and a STEAMY KISSING SCENE! No cliffhanger but definitely need to read more to see where all the clues are pointing at and where it's all going to go down.
Susan Dennard is a writer, reader, lover of animals, and eater of cookies. She used to be a marine biologist, but now she writes novels. And not novels about fish either, but novels about kick-butt heroines and swoon-worthy rogues (she really likes swoon-worthy rogues). She lives in the Midwest with her French husband and Irish setter, and her debut, SOMETHING STRANGE AND DEADLY, is now available from HarperTeen.
