A dark and tender post-apocalyptic love story set in the aftermath of a bloody war.
In a city where humans and Darklings are now separated by a high wall and tensions between the two races still simmer after a terrible war, -year-olds Ash Fisher, a half-blood Darkling, and Natalie Buchanan, a human and the daughter of the Emissary, meet and do the unthinkable—they fall in love.
Bonded by a mysterious connection that causes Ash’s long-dormant heart to beat, Ash and Natalie first deny and then struggle to fight their forbidden feelings for each other, knowing if they’re caught, they’ll be executed—but their feelings are too strong.
When Ash and Natalie then find themselves at the center of a deadly conspiracy that threatens to pull the humans and Darklings back into war, they must make hard choices that could result in both their deaths.
My Thought's (Lisseth):
I have been dying to read BLACK CITY for so long!! I was worried that all the hype was going to ruin the book for me...BUT IT DIDNT!
I will not lie, getting into the book was a bit tough but you get used to it and I liked the way it was presented to me in the end. What I really liked about this book was that, every so often i paused in my reading, I would begin to think. What was going to happen? What had just happened? Where the hell is this going? THAT is what I like to find in a book. I like that it makes me stop, scream, and theorize.
OH GOD! When something unexpected happened in this book I was just like, "WHAT? Wait NO!? That wasn´t supposed to happen...was it?" @_@ Believe me there are some really well placed shockers in there. I applaud you Mrs. Richards, I applaud. Because seriously, If a book can make me think one thing then another so quickly and then twist that. 0_0 well then it is a work of art. (Especially if it doesn´t confuse me, while doing it!)
Now on to the characters. THERE WERE SO MANY THAT I LOVED!!! I really liked Natalie and Ash. They were both really screwed up people. Natalie´s mom practically thinks she´s inept and she´s had to deal with so much since her fathers murder and sisters torture. Ash is a darkling, that in itself is bad, he´s a Haze dealer, and is the preacher´s son. BUT he´s NOT BAD! What I really liked was that they were both rebels in there own way. There romance was bittersweet. They physically had a STRONG attrachtion but i think they really did make a good couple. There relationship felt right. ^_^
Some of the side characters, I LOVED!! I LOVED Day, beetle, and to my shock Chris. Day has a lot of conflicting ideals yet i liked that though mousy she was like me, strong in her own way. Beetle, is basically a Haze addict, basically he´s addicted to the venom that comes from a Darkling´s bite and it gives you a high. He was so cute when he interacted with Day, because they do have a past ;) CHRIS, in my opinion is...complicated. He doesn´t have his brothers hatred for Darklings and is a Haze user but i find him to be like Adrian from Vampire Academy. He is who he is, and i loved that!
The Ending. I won´t spoil but :O JAW DROP. U MUST READ IT!!! @_@ It was so schoking and GOOD!!! I NEED the next book ASAP!!!
Overall, I LOVED this book to death!! It was very well written and had enough twists to make my head spin. A HOT romance and an AMAZING Story. I give this book 5/5 AMAZING STACKS of BOOKS! =D
